Mason Korea Upperclassmen Give Career Advice

Mason Korea Upperclassmen Give Career Advice

At a recent mentorship event, two upperclass students offered advice to some of Mason Korea’s newest students.

The first speaker, Yeonju Park (senior, Global Affairs), is currently interning as the External Relations & Foundation Assistant at the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP). However, she told her underclassmen audience, getting that internship was not easy. She described her initial rejection by EEAFP and how her professional experience at The Bridge International, a nonprofit, landed her a second chance at EAAFP.

image“Speaking in English can be daunting at first, but you’ll find yourself unconsciously communicating in English as you continue to expose yourself to the English-speaking environment at Mason Korea,” said Park, adding, “Don’t be afraid to seek help on campus, especially from the CDC!” Park was also an executive member of Asian Boss Next, a student-led project in collaboration with the global media platform Asian Boss.

The event’s second speaker, Youngho Ji (junior, Accounting), is Co-Founder of Baron Trading Company. He currently serves as a Resident Advisor and is the President of the Investment Club at Mason Korea. He also has experience working as a Safety Intern at Samsung C&T Corporation.

Ji talked about why he chose accounting and leveraging his experiences at Mason Korea to pursue his dreams. “Don’t just sit around and wait for opportunities,” he said, adding, “Be proactive and make the most of your time at Mason Korea.”

At a lively concluding Q&A session, students gained further insights and practical tips from the guest speakers.

Mason Korea’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program and Career Development Center (CDC) teamed up to organize this event.
