Course Description
 

This CHIN 101-K01 course is designed for students with no or little prior knowledge of Chinese experience, and we will cover Lesson 1 to Lesson 3 (include the Basics Part) of the main textbook, Integrated Chinese, Level 1, and Part 1(4th edition, Simplified Characters). The course focuses on developing the four basic skills in language necessary to communicate with native Mandarin Chinese speakers―listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It includes practice in writing Chinese characters, using essential vocabulary and elementary grammar for oral and written communication, exploring aspects of Chinese culture and society, and making comparisons between the Chinese language and culture. In addition, authentic text or audio, visual materials are used to enhance development of communication skills.

Introduction to Mandarin, including basic grammar, oral expression, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. Notes: Students may not receive credit for CHIN 101 and CHIN 109 or 110. Equivalent to CHIN 109, CHIN 110.
