Choyeong Kim

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Hi, My name is Choyeong Kim and I am a junior. My major in Global Affaris and my minor is Korean Studies and Conflict Analysis and Resolution. I enrolled in Mason Korea in Fall 2019 and plan to graduate in 2023.

Why did you choose Mason Korea and your major?

As someone who has gone through 12 years of education in Korea, I am well aware of the merits of Korean education, but I also felt many of its limitations. Although I had a desire to experience studying abroad from a young age, I regretted not having the opportunity. By choosing George Mason University Korea, however, I was able to overcome the limitations of Korean education that I felt and have the experience of studying abroad, so it was a really good choice for me. As I like to study a wide field, I decided to choose a major that would allow me to develop a wider view than other majors.

Which accomplishments from your undergraduate journey are you most proud of?

One year as a department representative was a very valuable time. I had to communicate with mason communities, regardless of faculty, staff, and student, and I did my best as a representative of the department, such as student counseling, regular guidance on CDC events, regular meetings, and research on detailed major preferences. Being a department representative is the proudest career of mine because I was able to develop myself more by agonizing about the better ways for the school and department with other department representatives.

What has been the highlight of your Mason Korea experience so far?

The most important part of my experience at Mason Korea was that I was able to meet good people. I was able to meet colleagues from various backgrounds, and I was able to grow more internally by having them as friends. The biggest reason why I was able to constantly try various experiences is that I had good colleagues who supported me.

What are you looking forward to in Fairfax?

What I look forward to the most is that I have time to focus on what I want to study. In Korea, as part of my career development strategy, I had to distribute my energy to other places besides studying, including internships and various activities, but if I go to Fairfax, I am planning to concentrate on studying the capstone and some electives that I want to learn. I hope I can grow more through my time at Fairfax.
