BFA in Computer Game Design

Technology + Design = Opportunity

Best Game Design Award

Ranked as one of the best Game Design Bachelor’s degrees in the US by College Choice, George Mason’s Computer Game Design program enables students to focus on the artistic components of computer game design while providing them with the technical skills prerequisite to the field. Because of its blending of technology with design, the Computer Game Design Program at Mason is one of the most transformational areas of study in higher education today.

Required courses provide instruction in computer science, art and visual technology, music, and the humanities, along with computer game design. The required internship provides students with practical experience that enhances their employability postgraduation. Students study both the sciences and the arts, all in a revolving-role team-based, project-based new pedagogical environment. The GMU Computer Game Design program hosts the only U.S. Serious Game Institute (in partnership with the University of Coventry in the UK), that concentrates on game-related applied research and new innovative game company cultivation.

The video game industry is large—bigger than the music and movie industries combined—and projected to grow further. Computer Game Design Program at George Mason University prepares students for employment, doing so with a curriculum designed to reflect the gaming industry’s demand for an academically rigorous technical program coupled with an understanding of the artistic and creative elements of the evolving field of study.  Graduates of the major have entered careers in game design and development, 3D modeling and animation, sound designer and game music composition, creative game writing, software development, and more.  The major also prepares students for further study in the computer game design and development field.

As one of the gaming capitals of the world, South Korea is a great place to study computer game design. You can participate in South Korea's dynamic gaming culture while learning the technology, design and content creation that fuels it. You will have various opportunities to work with people from internationally renowned game studios to realize your dream of creating your own game.

The Computer Game Design Program is accredited with commendation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
