What are environmental policies? More importantly, what are good environmental policies? How do we make them? How can we evaluate them? These are some of the many questions that this course will help you answer.

This course provides an overview of the environmental policy process in developing countries around the world. We will focus on the distinctive problems and dynamics of environmental policy making in developing country contexts with the aim of generating better policy decisions and management. Key themes include environmental governance, the politics of resource allocation, social and ecological justice, and sustainability transitions. Readings, documentaries, and discussions will highlight the interplay between global environmental priorities and local realities, exploring how developing countries shape and are shaped by environmental policy choices.
