Student Visa Overview

Student Visa

Undergraduate-level international students (non-Korean) who wish to stay in Korea for more than 90 days to attend classes must obtain a student visa (D-2). In order to apply for a student visa (D-2), students must first receive an endorsement document called the "Certificate of Admission"  from Mason Korea. After receiving the certificate, students can proceed and apply for a visa at the Korean Embassy or Consulate.

The university currently supports the following student visas for international students.

Sojourn

In general, the Korean embassy grants single entry visas. This means the visa will expire after the first entry.

After the entry, a foreigner who entered Korea with a visa is required to apply for what is called a “sojourn” by completing the Alien Registration process. After completing the alien registration, students will receive a “sojourn period” as stated in the table above which will allow its holders to stay in Korea for more than 90 days and enter the Korean borders multiple times as long as the sojourn period is valid.

It is a student's responsibility to check the expiry date of his/her sojourn and extend the period before its expiration. Students can extend the sojourn period by completing the Extension of Stay process. Students are highly recommended to consult with the international student advisor 2 months before their visa expiration dates.

Extending the sojourn period over the maximum allowed limits stated above will be granted on a limited basis.
