Entrance Scholarship
Summary
George Mason University’s Korea campus offers Entrance Scholarship exclusively to incoming undergraduate freshman and transfer students. The award value is dependent upon a holistic, evaluative review of the candidate that considers many factors, including the candidate’s personal experiences, skills, essay, and academic performance.

Entrance Scholarship (Merit Based)
Entrance Scholarship rewards $1,500 - 5,000 per semester up to 6 semesters. The awards are applicable only towards Spring and Fall semester tuition at Korea campus. The awards are not applicable to summer term tuition.
In order to be eligible for the Entrance Scholarship, the applicant must
- be admitted to Mason Korea
- have great academic performance
- have leadership/extracurricular activities
If a student was selected as a recipient of this scholarship, a student must meet the requirements specified below to retain his or her scholarship recipient status.
In order to retain one's scholarship recipient status, the recipient must;
- maintain enrollment under full time status (12 credits or more per semester) at Mason Korea
- maintain cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Otherwise, the award will be forfeited. Please note that George Mason University reserves the right to rescind all or part of this scholarship if the student does not meet these requirements.
- Once you are admitted, the Entrance Scholarship Committee reviews your documents and selects candidates for the next step.
- The Office of Admissions and Enrollment send the Candidates a notification regarding the next steps; 1) Submit an essay (theme is stated in the notification letter) by the stated deadline, 2) Skype Interview (approximately 20 minutes at a designated time slot) with the Entrance Scholarship Committee.
- After the Skype Interview, the committee will inform the student regarding the results for scholarship.
Entrance Scholarship (Need Base)
At George Mason University Korea, we offer Need Based Entrance Scholarship to all entering new students to help supplement their cost of higher education. In order to qualify for this scholarship, students must apply for the scholarship by the deadline and submit appropriate supporting documents to show the need of financial assistance from GMUK. The Need Based Entrance Scholarship is independent of GMUK’s Merit based Entrance Scholarship.
The Need Based Entrance Scholarship is awarded up to 6 semesters. The scholarship is renewed each academic year based on the student’s academic performance and the family’s financial need. It is the responsibility of the recipient to submit appropriate documents requested by GMUK’s Admissions and Enrollment Management Office for renewal of the scholarship.
1. Complete ‘Need Based Entrance Scholarship’ Application online.
2. Submit (email) supporting documents that can prove your financial situation;
- Family Relation Certificate (가족관계 증명서)
- Health Insurance Payment Document 건강보험료납부확인서또는건강보험료산정내역서
- Certificates of Income (소득금액증명원), which can be downloaded from www.minwon.go.kr
- If you or your parents did not have income, Statement of Zero Income (무소득사실증명원; 사실증명-신고사실없음) which can be obtained by visiting the district tax office or at Hometax (www.hometax.gto.kr)
- Other financial documents such as 국민기초생활수급자증명서, 한부모가족 증명서, 장애인연금수급자 확인서, 자활근로자 확인서, etc. if applicable.
