Mission Statement
The name of this organization shall be The Student Government of George Mason University Korea (GMU Korea). Student Government is a permanent standing entity which receives its legitimacy and authority as representatives of the entire student body.
The Student Government advocates the interests of the student body of George Mason University Korea (GMU Korea), educates the University community regarding the state of the institution, and represents the interests of each student. The Student Government of GMU Korea will serve as a liaison to the administration, faculty, staff, and University community in Korea and with the counterparts at GMU’s home campus in Fairfax Virginia.
The Student Government of George Mason University Korea is a body that is intended to assist in relations between the GMU Korea administration and GMU Korea students, and between IGC Foundation and GMU Korea students. The primary objective of the Student Government is to improve and maintain the quality of student life at GMU Korea. Any other goals are parts of achieving the primary objective. The Student Government will achieve its objective by raising concerns and problems students might have, as well as organizing activities for the student community.
The Student Government shall also consistently maintain and develop relations between GMU Korea Faculty and Students. The success of the Student Government rests on the trust and dedication that GMU Korea Community places on them. The Student Government of Mason Korea is a leadership and development platform created by Mason Korea for the growth of its students and the institution. Finally, the Student Government will remain independent of influence and undo direction or control from GMU Korea Staff or others.
A message from your 2026 Student Government:
We are pleased to introduce the 2026 Mason Korea Student Government, AURUM Administration, marking the start of a new chapter focused on clarity, unity, and meaningful progress. The name AURUM, meaning gold in Latin, symbolizes high standards, shared purpose, and a commitment to elevating the student experience. Guided by the belief that “With beautiful hearts, we rise together(아름다운 마음으로 함께 오르는 공동체),” our administration will serve the 2026 academic year with a clear direction and a strengthened sense of responsibility to the entire campus.
Our vision is organized around three pillars that shape our goals and guide our actions:
1. Organization & Structure
We are strengthening the Student Government's internal foundation by prioritizing efficiency transparency, and consistency. This includes clearer planning systems, accessible information for students and partners, and processes that support reliable communication and timely decision-making. Our intent is to build a Student Government that operates with integrity and provides stability for the programs, departments, and individuals who rely on us.
2. Connection & Community
We are committed to nurturing stronger relationships within the university. This includes supporting student voices, creating more collaborative pathways between RSOs, expanding interactions with faculty, strengthening partnerships with academic units and research centers, and increasing engagement with Fairfax and IGC. We envision a campus where people feel connected to one another and where community involvement is encouraged and easy to access.
3. Opportunity & Growth
We aim to broaden the range of academic, professional, and personal opportunities available to
students. This involves developing more workshops, mentorship avenues, collaborative projects,
and student support frameworks. Our focus is to help students gain confidence, explore new
experiences, and take advantage of resources that can shape their goals and future prospects.
These pillars form the basis of our commitment to serve the campus with purpose and direction.
Above all, we strive to act as a bridge between the student body and the university, ensuring clear communication and that ideas become actionable plans that benefit the community. Faculty, staff, and student organizations are warmly invited to collaborate with us. Whether you seek to initiate a project, co-host an event, explore academic or community partnerships, or support student-centered initiatives, our team is ready to work with you. Contact Student Government whenever you need us.
We look forward to a year shaped by collaboration, progress, and a stronger sense of shared purpose: Rooted in Green, Rising in Gold!
