FAQs for US Mason Students

“When You’re Here, You’re Home.” That’s as true on Mason’s Songdo campus in Korea as it is on our Fairfax campus in Virginia. International experience opens a world of new possibilities, encouraging both personal growth and career advancement in our increasingly globalized society. Study abroad at Mason Korea combines those benefits with the convenience of remaining within the Mason system. Because Mason Korea is a campus of George Mason University, it offers the same courses as do Mason’s US campuses.
While living at Mason Korea, learning and growing in a vibrant Asian city, you will also enjoy the same advising resources and fill the same course requirements as you would in the US. You will use familiar Mason systems such as Patriot Web. And on your return to the US, you will not need to negotiate any transfer of course credit --- because all throughout your transformative international semester, you never left Mason.

It’s both! As a Mason Korea student in good academic standing, as long as a schedule of classes appropriate to your program is available at Mason's campus in Korea, you may register for and attend classes there, just as you may register for and to attend classes at Mason's campuses in Fairfax, Arlington, or Prince William. Please contact Grace Lee, Mason Korea Coordinator, glee36@gmu.edu to get started on the process. You will work with Mason advisors, register through Patriot Web, and take the same courses you would take at the Fairfax campus – enriched by attention to our location in Korea. You may also receive valuable information and support through Mason’s Global Education Office, Mason’s central source for resources on Study Abroad, before you come to Mason Korea, while you’re here, and on your return to Fairfax. Please click here to reach the Global Education Office.
Yes! Mason Korea enjoys hosting Global Gateway students. Please click here for more information: Global Gateway.
All currently enrolled Mason students in good academic standing who have confirmed a course schedule with an appropriate academic advisor are eligible to spend a semester at Mason Korea. We accept students from Mason’s US campuses on a first-come, first-served basis
Many courses at Mason Korea will have special themes that take advantage of our Korean location. You might take an anthropology class on K-pop, a conflict resolution class on the North-South Korean conflict, or a literature class on Korean literature. You’ll also enjoy excursions built into your classes, such as trips to a K-pop concert, the DMZ (the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea) or to writer’s museums in Seoul and elsewhere. You’ll be learning about Korean life and culture while you immerse yourself in it. In addition, students may use their semester at Mason Korea to complete a minor in international business.
The first step is contact Ms. Grace Lee, the Mason Korea Coordinator glee36@gmu.edu and the Mason Korea advisor for your major, or for Exploratory students. Please see the table of advisor contact information above under "Whom should I talk to help me plan the classes I will take at Mason Korea?" and start the process now!
