Military Service Credit Application

To promote and reward civic engagement, Mason Korea students that have completed their military service may be eligible to obtain academic credits for qualifying military services.

Credit Award

A maximum of six credits of lower-level military science electives (MLSC L400 or MLSC L402) may be earned through the Military Service Credit Application.

Eligible Students

Any student meeting the following requirements may be eligible for the military service academic credits:

1. Matriculated into George Mason University through Mason Korea; and
2. Served in qualifying South Korean military service.*
3. Applicants must have at least one semester remaining until graduation. Applications submitted during the semester in which the applicant expects to graduate will not be accepted.

*Each student's service must go through a holistic evaluation to ensure certain criteria are met (e.g., sufficient service type and sufficient service period).

Required Documents

1. Military Service Credit Application Form
2. English - Official Verification of Military Service (containing the full details of enlistment including military classification, rank, category of service, date of enlistment/discharge, and reason for discharge). See here to learn how to obtain the certificate for Korean military units.
3. English - Reflection paper on what have been learned from the service (no more than 2 pages).
